The Merchant Services Risk Analyst position is best suited for a motivated, dependable, team player who thrives in a fast-paced work environment.  Chesapeake Payment Systems faces new challenges on a daily basis so it is crucial that all employees embrace change and have the ability to adapt to challenging priorities and learn new skills while achieving organizational objectives.  This work environment requires the ability to work independently and problem solve complex situations.


  • Work in a team atmosphere with acquiring clients to ensure risk items regarding accounts are communicated and pending requests are clear and handled in a timely manner. Collaborate with clients to ensure their understanding of risk and ways to prevent fraud.
  • Adhere to Corporate and Merchant Acquiring policies and procedures.
  • Conduct ongoing merchant reviews to ensure compliance with the Merchant Acquiring Policy.
  • Conduct statistical analysis to identify trends, variations, patterns and insights relating to the performance and fraudulent or suspicious payment transactions
  • Assist with preparation of report for audits, including findings, analyses and conclusions.
  • Utilize research and analytical tools to make quality decisions regarding risk alerts
  • Translate results and communicate findings as meaningful business recommendations to Management and acquiring clients as necessary.
  • Review acquiring settlement activity to identify unusual or suspicious activity.
  • Review daily volume, fraud management and dispute reporting to monitor for unusual or suspicious activity.
  • Extract and distribute daily, monthly and quarterly reports from various systems.
  • Perform complex chargeback, sales volume and CNP analysis and reporting.
  • Perform ongoing review and reporting of acquiring portfolios.
  • Work as a support liaison between Bank and acquiring clients
  • Assist with annual audit reports.
  • Assist with Card Association compliance and reporting requirements.
  • Assist with the implementation of new relationships.
  • Assist with projects
  • Stay abreast of all new and emerging fraud trends in the industry.
  • Understand your role as defined by the three lines of defense to maintain a compliance culture that includes risk management processes. 
  • Other duties as assigned.


  • Strong analytical skills
  • 1+ years of underwriting or risk experience in a financial or credit card processing environment
  • 2 years financial services industry experience.
  • Merchant Services experience a plus
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications including Outlook, Word and Excel.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize work load independently
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment
  • Ability to communicate effectively both written and verbal
  • Self-motivated, conscientious and team oriented
  • Aptitude to learn new software programs and job functions.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and/or confidential material and information in an ethical and professional manner.
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills.
  • Experience with OFAC, AML, KYC, BSA regulatory requirements
  • Auditing experience preferred.
  • Possess initiative
